All about delivery bike insurance
More and more delivery mopeds are being replaced by electric delivery bikes. There are many advantages to delivery by e-bike (electric bicycle).
Pedelecs are similar to mopeds in terms of purchase cost. In use, however, they are a lot cheaper.
They are also better for the environment and there is no age attached to riding a pedelec. This allows employers to hire young people who have not yet reached the age of 16. This in turn saves on labor costs.
Electric bikes for private and commercial use are not (yet) subject to compulsory insurance. After all, you don't want to have to pay for damage caused by your delivery drivers, as the costs of personal injury can be considerable.
Is delivery bike insurance mandatory?
Private liability insurance (AVP) covers damage with or caused by a pedelec for an individual. Although the electric bicycle is considered a motor vehicle, unlike other motor vehicles, insurance is not (yet) required. Damage with a private electric bicycle is usually insured on the AVP. Damage caused during business use of the electric bicycle is excluded from coverage. Business liability insurance (AVB) no longer covers damages caused by delivery drivers on an electric bicycle owned by a delivery company.

Two types of electric bikes
Two types of electric bicycles can be distinguished that are now on the market, the standard e-bike up to 25 km/h and the Speed Pedelec up to 45 km/h. The Speed Pedelec is a pedal-assisted bicycle and has a minimum age of 16 years to ride. Drivers also need a driver's license and must wear a helmet. The Speed Pedelec does already require insurance. Even if you own a Speed Pedelec, you can take out insurance with us.
Communicating changes is important
When you apply for insurance or if you have a claim, you must answer some questions. You must answer these questions honestly. In addition, you must do as much as you can to prevent and limit damage. Report damage as soon as possible! Furthermore, it is important to inform us if things change.
