Additional coverages for greater security
In addition to choosing the right coverage for your van insurance, you can also compare and purchase various additional coverages.
Occupant damage
v.a.
4 ,54
p/month
Indemnity passenger insurance is similar to accident passenger insurance, but the premium is higher and the coverage much more comprehensive.
The damage passenger insurance pays out for damage to the occupants of your van. The damage must have been caused by an accident. It may concern both personal injury and material damage.
Occupant accidents
v.a.
1 ,12
p/month
Accidental occupant insurance pays a lump sum in the event of permanent disability and death of the occupants. For a small additional premium you can co-insure this additional coverage.
As a driver you are responsible for the other passengers. Even if you pay the best possible attention, it can still happen that you cause an accident. With the accident passenger insurance you cannot take care of the personal suffering of the passengers or the next of kin. With financial compensation, however, you can ensure that the financial suffering is reduced.
Motor Vehicle Legal Assistance
va.
6 ,24
p/month
Insured of legal help in traffic disputes. At home and abroad. With the vehicle insured on the policy.
What does cheap van insurance entail?
As an entrepreneur, you can't do without a reliable van. So you certainly don't want to compromise on the quality of the insurance, but on the other hand you don't want to pay too much either. Use the comparison tool at Alpina.nl to find the cheapest van insurance with the best coverage.
What does the premium depend on?
The premium you have to pay for your van insurance depends on the following factors, among others:
- Which type of insurance do you choose?
- What is the current value of the van?
- What is your postcode?
- What company do you work for and where is it located?
- What is the age of the regular driver?
- Have you already accumulated claim-free years that you can use?
- What are you transporting?
Depending on these factors, the premium may go up or down. For example, if you transport hazardous materials, the premium may go up because of a higher risk of damage.
Insuring a van without a driving licence
Driving a van without a license is not allowed by law. Driving without a license is also not an option for van insurance. The insurance will not cover you if you cause damage. But of course you can buy a van and let others drive it. However, not all insurers will cover you. We offer options for van insurance without a license.
When am I required to insure my van?
You are legally obliged to insure a (van) car as soon as the license plate is in your name. From that moment on, your details as owner are known to the Dutch Road Transport Agency (RDW). The RDW regularly checks whether the vehicles in its database have insurance. If you have not taken out compulsory third-party insurance for your car or van, and it is already registered in your name, you run the risk of a fine from the RDW.
A car that has already been transferred into your name must be insured in your name from the time of registration, even if the car is still with the seller.
It is not mandatory to insure your car limited casco or All Risk, only the third-party coverage is required.
Frequently asked questions about van insurance
How does it work with the insurance of VAT and BPM?
Often, company cars and passenger cars used for business purposes can be insured on a van insurance policy exclusive of VAT. Company cars bought (new) after July 1, 2005 can also be insured excluding BPM in many cases. This results in a significantly lower premium because the insurance company assumes a lower value.
This does mean that the insurance company will also pay out excluding VAT and/or BPM in the event of a claim. This means you pay less, but also receive less money from the insurance company in the event of a claim.
When can I deduct VAT?
For example, you can deduct VAT on the (purchase of a) business car from your own business. When making a comparison, you are asked whether you can deduct VAT. When you answer 'yes' to this question, the original catalog value (and thus the insured value) is automatically reduced by the VAT. You will then not have to pay any premium on the VAT amount. Of course, any claim payment will also be paid out exclusive of VAT. As a private individual, in principle, you cannot deduct VAT.
You do not charge VAT on the insurance premium but insurance tax. You cannot deduct the insurance tax you have to pay.
For which vehicles is the van insurance intended?
Courier insurance is designed for commercial vehicles (gray license plate) with an unladen weight of up to 3500 kilograms, which are used for courier work.
Vans that do not fall within this category, but are used for business, can be insured with van insurance.
With van insurance, is it important which goods I transport?
In certain cases, it matters for van insurance what items you are transporting. Transporting flammable materials or theft-sensitive goods can affect the premium. We advise you to indicate this when you take out your van insurance. This way you can avoid problems in case of damage.
I use the van as a courier. Is this possible?
Yes you can. On our courier insurance it is also possible to insure vans used as couriers.
For other work or general business use of a van, van insurance is recommended.
Is there a limit to the number of miles I can drive my van per year?
Yes, there is often a limit to the number of miles you can drive your van per year. You specify this when you start the insurance and it often ranges from a maximum of 12000 kilometers per year to unlimited. The more miles you plan to drive with the van the higher the insurance premium will be.
