Professional indemnity insurance (BAV) covers financial losses caused by professional misconduct for which you are liable. The insurance is designed for self-employed people and SMEs who provide advice, such as architects, engineers, consultants or ICT specialists. Employees, interns and collaborating family members are also covered. Some insurers additionally cover damage due to environmental degradation.
What is covered
With employer liability you are insured for damages to employees due to a work accident or occupational disease. Work-related traffic accidents on foot or by bicycle are also covered. Attention: does it concern an accident with a motor vehicle for which insurance is mandatory and where the employee was driver or passenger? Then this is not insured. With walk-in, you are also insured for liability for damage caused by acts or omissions before the start of the insurance, but which is only discovered later.

What is professional liability insurance?
As a business owner, you may face professional liability. But what is it really?
You have your own business, business is booming. There is plenty of work and you can set aside some money to save. But what if you are held liable for financial damages? A small mistake can have major consequences in this case. For example, a liability claim can add up considerably in costs.

Professional liability can therefore arise from all sorts of things, such as negligence, misjudgments, incorrect advice, absenteeism, etc. The damages arising from this can therefore be recovered from you as a business owner.
To determine professional liability, professional standards are often considered. In other words, would another professional with the same knowledge and experience have acted in the same way while observing the requirements of good professional practice?
