All about getting professional liability insurance

With professional liability insurance (BAV), you insure the financial loss your client suffers as a result of professional misconduct for which you are liable.

Professional liability insurance is designed for self-employed individuals and SMEs who provide advice, for example. These may include architects, engineers, consultants in business services and ICT specialists.

This insurance protects your business from claims if your business is held legally liable for the damage to others caused by your business, your employees, your products or by yourself.

When taking out professional indemnity insurance, the company, employees (including agency staff, trainees or volunteers), directors, supervisory directors and partners are covered. Cooperating family members are also insured.

Some insurers insure your liability for damage to persons due to environmental damage with a third-party liability insurance. You are then also insured for liability for damage to the belongings of others if the environmental degradation was caused by a supplied product not installed by yourself and the damage occurred suddenly.

Employer's liability

This insures you for damage to employees due to a work accident or occupational disease. Labor-related traffic accidents on foot or by bicycle are also insured.

Attention! Was the traffic accident caused with a (insurance required) motor vehicle, of which the employee is the driver or passenger? Then this is not insured.

With walk-in, you insure liability for damages caused by acts or omissions made prior to the inception of the insurance.

Cheapest professional indemnity insurance

Looking for the cheapest professional liability insurance? You can find it by comparing different providers. There are many providers on the market, and the selection keeps expanding. Moreover, premiums can vary widely. Sometimes people choose the cheapest insurance they can find without looking closely at the coverage. However, when comparing professional liability insurance, it is important to look not only at the price, but also at the coverage and terms. After all, there can be big differences in these as well. Perhaps the cheapest professional liability insurance policy will not cover you as well as you actually want.

Compare professional indemnity insurance

Before purchasing professional liability insurance, it is wise to compare different providers. This is actually always true, for any insurance. After all, there are many providers on the market, all with different premiums and conditions. By comparing, you can save a lot of money every year. Premiums can change annually, so it pays to make a comparison every year. Because premiums are regularly adjusted up or down by insurers, it may very well be that the cheapest professional liability insurance from last year is no longer as advantageous in the new year. Or perhaps things have changed in your business, making you better off with another insurer. Moreover, by comparing you can find the best professional liability insurance at the lowest price. All reasons to start comparing professional liability insurance policies before you buy.

As an entrepreneur, you may have to deal with professional liability. But what is it?

What is professional indemnity insurance?

Professional liability can therefore arise from all sorts of things, such as negligence, misjudgments, incorrect advice, absenteeism, etc. The damages arising from these can therefore be recovered from you as a business owner.

To determine professional liability, professional standards are often considered. In other words, would another professional with the same knowledge and experience have acted in the same way while observing the requirements of good professional practice?
