Canceling Insurance Within the Cooling-Off Period

Have you purchased an insurance policy but would like to cancel it? If so, you can exercise your legal right to cancel within 14 days of receiving the policy. You can cancel the insurance free of charge and without giving a reason.

Please note: If you exercise your right to cancel within the cooling-off period, the insurance will be canceled as of the effective date. This means that there was no coverage during the period between when you purchased the insurance and when you canceled it. Any claims arising during this period will not be reimbursed.

Mandatory Vehicle Insurance

Have you purchased insurance for a car, motorcycle, scooter, moped, or other vehicle requiring a license plate? If so, you must have at least valid third-party liability insurance in effect at all times. If you exercise your right to cancel the policy within the cooling-off period, there will be no coverage from the policy’s effective date. If damage occurs during this period, it will not be covered. In addition, you may receive a fine from the RDW if you fail to comply with the insurance requirement.
