There are different ways to insure a scooter, and it is important to know what to look for when choosing a scooter insurance policy. Below we list the steps you can take to insure a scooter online and what to look out for.
Step 1: Compare insurers
Before buying insurance, it is important to compare different insurers. You can do this by using our online comparator. Here you can compare different insurers based on coverage, price and conditions. This way you can choose the insurance that suits you best.
Step 2: Determine the coverage you need
There are different types of coverage you can choose from, such as third-party coverage, third-party + limited collision coverage or all-risk coverage. TPL coverage is required by law and only covers damage you cause to others. A WA + limited casco insurance offers more coverage, such as damage to your scooter in case of theft or storm. An all-risk insurance offers the most coverage, such as damage to your scooter in case of an accident or fire. Determine what coverage you need and choose the insurance that fits it best. The current value of your scooter is the determining factor here. Is your scooter worth a few hundred euros you can consider insuring the scooter only WA but is your scooter worth another few thousand euros an all-risk coverage is recommended.
Step 3: Close the insurance policy
Once you have chosen an insurer and the right coverage, you can purchase it online. When doing so, pay close attention to the insurer's terms and coverage. Make sure you take out the insurance on time, so that you are insured on time. From the moment the license plate is in your name, you are required by law to have scooter insurance with at least third-party coverage.
What happens after buying scooter insurance online?
After comparing premiums online, you can apply for insurance for your scooter right away. You provide the important details of your scooter such as registration number and report code, desired coverage and list value. Then you fill in your contact information and answer some underwriting questions. After this, you may or may not get provisional coverage.
Provisional coverage means that you have provisional coverage until the insurance company definitively accepts you. Should you have received provisional coverage, the scooter is insured from the chosen effective date. It is possible that the company will not or cannot accept you. This may be because you have been involved in a claim in the past, for example, or you have not paid a premium on time. In all cases we will keep you informed by e-mail.
What is cheap scooter insurance?
What is the cheapest scooter insurance? This is normally the scooter insurance with only third-party coverage. With third-party coverage, damage to the scooter is not insured but only the damage you cause to others. In addition to the coverage, there are several factors that determine the amount of the premium.
- Catalogue value of the scooter
- Age of regular driver
- Town/City
- Number of accumulated claim-free years
What cover does the scooter insurance offer?
Besides the obligatory WA scooter insurance, you have the choice between three more extensive coverages. Which one you should choose depends on the age of the scooter, its value and your financial position. The three coverages are:
Third-party liability (WA)
This is the basic coverage and cheapest scooter insurance. It covers the damage you cause with your scooter to third parties, but not the damage to your own scooter.
WA + Theft
In addition to WA coverage, theft damage is now covered. Damage to your own scooter that you have caused yourself (by a collision, for example) is not covered.
WA + Theft and Fire
In addition to the WA coverage, theft and/or fire damage is now covered. Damage to your own scooter that you have caused yourself (by collision, for example) is not covered.
WA + Theft, fire and collision
In addition to WA coverage and compensation for theft and/or fire damage, damage to your own scooter (due to a collision, for example) is now also covered.
The name of the coverage shows which parts are covered. The most comprehensive scooter insurance can be compared to the WA-case insurance(All-risk), as known from car insurance. The premium for scooter insurance is easy to calculate.

Frequently asked questions about scooter insurance
The premium for a 16-year-old is generally higher than the premium for someone 40 years old. This is mainly because someone 16 years old still has little driving experience and claims figures also show that drivers under 24 are more likely to be involved in a claim. Therefore, we always recommend comparing a premium first to determine which company has the lowest premium for a 16-year-old. Calculate now>>

This is to show that you took all precautions to prevent your scooter from being stolen. Check the ART Foundation website to see if your lock is ART approved.
