What are the costs if you lose your driver's license?
If you have lost your driver’s license or if it has been stolen, you must always file a report with the police. If this happens while you are abroad—for example, while on vacation—file a report with the police in the Netherlands. If you have lost your driver’s license , the fees for applying for a new one vary by municipality.
Looking to get car insurance? Calculate your premium! The police will file a report regarding the loss. You will need this report to apply for a new driver’s license at city hall. When you visit city hall, be sure to bring the report with you, along with a valid form of identification, one passport photo, and the required payment.
In some municipalities, you do not need to submit a police report; instead, you must fill out a statement yourself at the municipal office. You can check with your municipality to see if this applies to you.
Are you 60 years of age or older, does your driver’s license include categories C and/or D, or was your previous driver’s license issued with a shorter validity period due to a medical condition? If so, you will receive what is known as a duplicate driver’s license if you lose your driver’s license.
For information on the cost of applying for a new driver’s license if yours is lost, please check your local municipality’s website. The cost ranges from €30 to €50. For more information, visit the website of the National Road Traffic Authority (RDW).
