What should you keep in mind when storing a classic car?

When storing a classic car, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. A good classic car storage facility meets the following criteria:

• The parking area is covered, so your classic car will stay dry
• The room is well-ventilated
• The temperature in the barn does not drop below freezing and, ideally, is around 15 degrees
• The humidity in the garage is around 40%
• The parking facility is well protected against fire and theft

Storage Clause

If a parking clause applies to classic car insurance, the classic car must be parked in a locked space between sunset and sunrise. This does not include a carport with a gate in front of it or a parking garage that is accessible to multiple people. A variation on this clause may stipulate that the storage requirement applies only if the classic car is parked within a 1-kilometer radius of the residence.

Not every insurer includes a storage clause as standard. This varies depending on the product, type, and value of the vehicle. Therefore, when purchasing insurance, always ask whether a storage clause applies.

How much does it cost to store a classic car?

The cost of storing a classic car depends on the type of storage facility you choose. For example, there are options for seasonal storage as well as permanent storage. At many facilities, you pay a rate per square meter, but some charge a fixed monthly fee. In addition, the price depends on the facilities offered by the storage facility. For example, some facilities offer 24-hour access, video surveillance, or a workspace. Generally, the larger the storage facility, the higher the cost. Prices can vary quite a bit, but for permanent storage, you’ll often pay between €150 and €300 per month, and for seasonal storage, between €50 and €150.
