When is a quad bike a moped?
You can insure a quad bike as a moped if its cylinder capacity is less than 50cc.

Am I obliged to insure a quad bike?
Yes. The moment you have bought a quad, put it in your name and it has a registration number, you have to insure it. You are legally obliged to insure the quad against at least third-party liability (WA) from the same day that the registration certificate is in your name.
It may happen that you will not be using your quad temporarily. In that case, you can have your quad suspended for a certain period of time. By suspending it, your insurance obligation expires and you are not allowed to use the public roads with the quad. You can have your Quads suspended at the PostNL postal outlets or online at the RDW.
