Home Contents Insurance for People with a Criminal Record
Have you had any run-ins with the police or the justice system in the past 8 years?Do you have a criminal record? If so, you must disclose this information on every application you submit for new insurance.
A traffic ticket for running a red light or for speeding is not the type of incident that is relevant to or will affect your insurance application.
Things You Must Always Report
You must always disclose the following information when applying for a new insurance policy:
- A (conditional) suspension of a driver's license
- If you are (or have been) suspected of, or have been convicted of:
- theft, embezzlement, fraud, swindling, forgery, or an attempt to commit any of these offenses;
- destruction and/or damage to property
- assault, extortion, intimidation, threats, or any other crime directed against the liberty or life of others, or an attempt to commit such a crime;
- a violation of the Weapons and Ammunition Act, the Opium Act, or the Economic Offenses Act.
In the cases listed above, most insurers are unable to provide you with coverage.
What are my options for home contents insurance if I have a criminal record?
Unfortunately, as described above, most insurers are unable to provide you with insurance if you have a criminal record. Of course, it depends on the reason for your criminal record, but insurers are very cautious in this regard.
Insurers are free to decide for themselves whom they do or do not want as a customer. Insurers are not required to accept anyone. Only health insurers are required to accept anyone for basic health insurance at all times.
However, we can request a no-obligation quote for you from Vereende for home contents (and other types of insurance). After all, we always have a solution for you. This insurer has a more lenient underwriting policy and, in principle, accepts everyone—even those with a history of non-payment.
However, you must pay for the first 3 months in advance.

How can I get home contents insurance if I have a criminal record?
You can only purchase insurance from Vereende through an agent. For a no-obligation quote, please contact us by phone. It is not yet possible to request this quote online.
Please note that we will need information about your home and its contents, and that you should have this information ready.
How is the value of the household goods calculated?
To calculate the total value of your household contents, you can use the household contents value calculator. This tool often provides coverage against underinsurance for a specific period—usually five years. This prevents you from having to notify the insurer every time you make a purchase to ensure you remain adequately insured.
