Tomos Insurance
Tomos is a well-known name when it comes to mopeds. In fact, it has been one of the most popular moped brands for years. Naturally, every moped rider wants to make sure his or her moped is properly insured. First of all, it’s mandatory in the Netherlands to have at least third-party liability insurance. In addition, it’s reassuring to be well-insured in case you’re involved in an accident and cause damage. That way, you can be sure you won’t face high costs. That’s why it’s best to get good Tomos insurance as soon as possible. At Alpina, you can customize your Tomos insurance policy exactly the way you want it.
Am I required to purchase insurance for a Tomos?
Yes, you must at least purchase third-party liability insurance for your Tomos moped. In the Netherlands, it is a legal requirement to have at least third-party liability insurance for every motor vehicle. With third-party liability insurance for your moped, you are covered for damage you cause to others. Suppose you collide with another moped while riding your Tomos. Both mopeds sustain significant damage. If you only have third-party liability insurance, the damage to your own moped will not be covered by the insurer. If you want this damage covered as well, you’ll need to choose a more comprehensive policy.
What types of coverage are available with Tomos insurance?
When taking out Tomos insurance, you can choose from three different coverage options: Third-Party Liability, Third-Party Liability + Theft and Fire, and Comprehensive. You can decide in advance which coverage best suits you and your moped. Do you have a brand-new or expensive Tomos? Then comprehensive moped insurance might be a good option. If your Tomos is a bit older, you can also opt for third-party liability insurance. We’ll briefly explain the three coverage options for you.
Third-Party Liability Coverage
WA stands for “Wettelijke Aansprakelijkheid” (Civil Liability). With civil liability insurance, you’re covered for damage you cause to others. For example, if you fail to notice a driver on your right and accidentally cause damage. Your civil liability insurance ensures that the other driver’s damages are covered. Was your own Tomos also damaged? In that case, you’ll have to cover those costs yourself.
Third-Party Liability (WA+) Coverage
WA+ insurance is a supplement to standard third-party liability insurance. This coverage is also known as“Third-Party Liability + Theft and Fire.” Theft coverage, in particular, can be a useful addition, since mopeds are very popular with thieves. In that case, don’t forget to purchase a good lock. This is often one of the conditions an insurer requires for this coverage.
Comprehensive Coverage
The most comprehensive insurance is all-risk insurance. With this policy, you’re also covered for damage to your own Tomos, even if you’re at fault for the damage. All-risk moped insurance is the most expensive option and is therefore often purchased for new or expensive mopeds.
