You’ve probably heard of liability insurance. In this context, liability insurance refers to statutory liability insurance. And what exactly is WAM insurance? WAM stands for the Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance Act. This law, consisting of 42 articles, governs the mandatory insurance requirement for motor vehicles.

Are you unsure whether you are WAM insured with your car? This uncertainty may exist, for example, in the following situations:
- No premium has been written off for a while (for example, due to financial difficulties);
- you buy a car that the seller says is still insured for a while;
- you recently insured your car but don't know if " coverage is already in place.

No WAM insurance
Don't have WAM insurance? That means you are quite at risk. If you cause damage to another person or another vehicle with your car, you are not covered. This means that without WAM insurance, you will bear the cost of the damage incurred yourself. These costs can be quite high. In addition, there are legal penalty provisions you need to consider when driving without WAM insurance.
Fine uninsured driving
Under Article 30 of the Motor Insurance Liability Act, you run the risk of a fine or even imprisonment if you are not WAM-insured. How much can this fine be? The RDW can impose a fine of around €400.00. The RDW keeps track of whether your car is insured. If it is not, they will eventually automatically send a fine. In addition, you can still be fined by the police if you are stopped in an uninsured vehicle. So in all respects, it is not wise to drive around without WAM insurance.
