Loss or theft of number plates

If one or two license plates are missing, you no longer need to apply for a replacement license plate. You can then purchase new license plates from a registration plate manufacturer recognized by the RDW. When doing so, you (or someone on your behalf) must show the original Vehicle Registration Certificate (Part 1A) and a valid identification document. If there are two license plates on the vehicle, two new license plates will also be issued, even if only one license plate is missing. The license plate manufacturer presses the license plates with a raised duplicate code. The license plate manufacturer also records issuing new license plates because the old ones are missing.
If your license plate is lost or stolen, the RDW recommends that you always report it to the police.

Missing registration plates and registration certificate

If you are missing both your number plates and your registration certificate, report this to the police. You can use the report to purchase temporary number plates.
