Vintage car valuation
Your vintage car is, of course, a precious possession. You should not think about your classic car being damaged or stolen. If this does happen, you want to be well insured. But what exactly will you get paid in case of damage or theft? This is where an appraisal report can help. The valuation report establishes the value of your vintage car. Therefore, the valuation of a vintage car contributes to a quick claim settlement. An old-timer valuation is also sometimes important when taking out old-timer insurance. What does a vintage car valuer look for?
A valuation is not the same as a technical inspection. It is meant to determine the value of your old-timer. During the appraisal, the appraiser looks at various aspects of the old-timer. These include the brand, type, model and year of construction of the old-timer. They also look at the condition of the old-timer, at any damage and at any investments that increase the value. The outcome of the valuation is included in the valuation report. A good oldtimer valuer will value your oldtimer in accordance with Article 7:960 of the Dutch Civil Code.
What does the valuation of an old-timer cost?
The cost of an old-timer valuation depends on a number of factors, but in general it costs between €150 and €200. Of course, the exact price differs per appraiser. There are also companies that offer it cheaper, but it is important that you have the valuation carried out by a recognised valuer. Not only for your own peace of mind, but also for your old-timer insurance. The valuation report must be properly drawn up by a recognised valuer, otherwise you run the risk of the insurer not accepting it.
Oldtimer valuation report
After the valuation, all data are recorded in a valuation report. The valuation report serves to establish the value of your old-timer. In this report, the brand, type and model of your old-timer are recorded. It also says something about the quality and condition of the old-timer. An appraisal report is usually valid for three years. During this period, the value of your old-timer is fixed in the valuation report. In the event of damage, you can therefore fall back on the determined value, so that there will be no discussion with the insurer about the amount to be paid out. Have you made any improvements to the vehicle in the meantime? Then it is a good idea to have the appraiser re-evaluate the report in the meantime.
Overview of oldtimer valuers in the Netherlands
It is important, however, that you have your old-timer valued by a recognised valuer. Someone may call himself an authorised oldtimer valuer if he is certified and meets the criteria drawn up by the VRT and TMV. An authorised valuer must have at least 5 years of demonstrable experience in the field of valuation.
