WA vintage car insurance

The owner of a vintage car is obliged to take out at least WA old-timer insurance. This oldtimer insurance offers coverage against damage for which the owner of the car is liable. Of the three forms of insurance, this is the cheapest one.

When insuring a vintage car, the cover chosen often depends to a large extent on the premiums charged by insurers. That is why it is important to compare old-timer insurance. The premium differences between the various insurers are large.

What cover does WA old-timer insurance offer?

According to the Dutch Motor Insurance Liability Act, the owner of an old-timer is at least obliged to take out third-party insurance. A maximum amount of €6,070,000 for personal injury and €2,500,000 for material damage applies to damage caused by liability. These seem to be excessively high insured amounts, but do not be mistaken how high damage can be caused by an accident. If several people are disabled, the material damage can easily run into millions of euros.

Injured party can claim directly with your insurer

Damage caused with your vintage car gives the injured party the right to turn directly to your insurer with a claim. Your insurer can thus be held directly liable for damages. Your insurer in that case receives a liability claim from the other party. Of course, the insurer is going to ask you to fill out a claim form.

Own damage cannot be claimed

The insurance only pays for damage to others and to other people's property. Damage to your own car cannot be claimed from your insurer. You can hold the other party liable for damage caused by someone else to your car. Your insurer is not a party to this. Damages such as broken windows, theft and storm damage are not insured. The limited liability insurance does offer coverage for this. Own damage caused by an accident is also not insured. You do have coverage if you choose the all risk old-timer insurance, but the premium for this coverage is of course also higher.

When is WA old-timer insurance the best choice?

Third-party insurance is the most limited form of insurance. For an old-timer with a high value, this is not the best choice. In case of an accident because of your fault, the value of the old-timer can drop to the scrap value in one go. This can be overcome with the all risk oldtimer insurance. Is the premium too high? An alternative is the WA limited casco. In case of a collision through your fault, also with this type of insurance you will not be paid for your own damage, but with certain causes you will receive a payment. Think of damage caused by fire and theft.

It is a matter of comparing and choosing the most comprehensive cover with a reasonable premium.
