Getting car insurance for your Porsche
A Porsche is not your average car. It is an investment in design, performance and driving experience. This is precisely why insuring a Porsche deserves extra attention. Not only is the list value considerably higher than average, maintenance, parts and damage repair also require specialist knowledge.
Standard car insurance often does not cover enough, especially in case of damage or theft. With good car insurance for your Porsche, you are assured of appropriate protection, tailored to your specific model, use and needs.

Why standard car insurance is not enough
A Porsche often represents a high value and is loved by car enthusiasts as well as thieves. Damage repair costs are usually higher due to specialized parts and the need for brand-specific repairs. For many Porsche owners, ownership revolves around originality and careful maintenance.
Many insurers make use of damage control. For example, you get a discount on your deductible if you choose an affiliated bodyshop. For Porsche owners, it is important that these repair partners work with original parts and according to factory specifications.
Accessories and upgrades co-insured
Whether you've opted for an Akrapovič exhaust system, a carbon aero package, ceramic brakes or even a full Manthey Racing optimization, physical modifications to your Porsche can, in most cases, simply be co-insured.
The condition is that you declare these parts in advance when taking out your insurance. The extra value is then included in the coverage for accessories.
Only software tuning, such as engine management modifications (ECU tuning), is almost always excluded from coverage.
This way you can be sure of an appropriate compensation, even if you have invested in high-end performance or aesthetic upgrades.
Claim-free years: impact on your premium
The more claim-free years you have accumulated, the more advantageous your Porsche insurance premium will be. If you do not claim any damage during a policy year, you build up one claim-free year. In contrast, if you make a claim, you lose claim-free years, which affects your premium.

New value or purchase value: how does compensation work?
In case of total loss of a new Porsche, a new-value policy is recommended: you will then receive the full new-value, instead of the daily value, for up to 3 years.
Do you drive a used model? Then a purchase value arrangement offers similar security: the insurer will then temporarily pay out the purchase price in the event of damage. Both schemes are optional, depending on the model and policy conditions.
Additional security requirements in luxury sports cars
For models with a high list value such as a 911 Turbo, Taycan or Cayenne Turbo, insurers often impose additional security requirements. Consider a Class 5 vehicle tracking system or an SCM-approved alarm system.
The exact requirements depend on make, model, region and coverage chosen. Sometimes these requirements apply as early as €75,000 list value, but for theft-prone models it may be earlier. It is important to check this carefully in advance in the policy conditions.

Frequently asked questions about insuring a Porsche
Can I take my Porsche to the track and still be insured?
Damage during track use or speed races is excluded. These situations are outside the normal coverage of private car insurance.
Are my accessories and options covered as standard?
Original factory options are usually included as standard coverage up to a certain amount. You can purchase additional coverage for more expensive or exclusive accessories.
When does a mandatory alarm system or vehicle tracking system apply?
For cars with a list value of about €75,000 or more, insurers often impose additional security requirements, depending on the model and region.
Is a Porsche insurable as a young driver?
In some cases they do, but premiums are then higher and stricter underwriting requirements often apply. Calculate your premium to see what your options are.
Is the value of my Porsche guaranteed in the event of a total loss?
It depends on the coverage you choose. Under a new-value or purchase-value coverage, you will often be reimbursed for the full purchase price or appraised value in the event of a total loss.
Can I insure multiple Porsches on one policy?
Yes, in many cases this is possible through a collector's policy or fleet insurance. This is useful for owners of multiple models, such as a daily driver as well as a classic car. Would you like to know more? Please contact us.
How does insurance work when storing in a parking garage or shed?
Coverage usually applies only if the storage location is properly secured. In some cases, the insurer has specific requirements for the location or asks for photos or documentation.
Is theft via keyless entry covered?
Yes, provided the insurer's security requirements are met. Some policies impose additional requirements on cars with keyless-go, such as a key security cover or additional lock.
Is my Porsche insured during events or static shows?
This varies by policy. Static events or competitions often have coverage, but active participation in shows or demonstrations often requires additional arrangements.
