If your travel companion cancels, are you also insured?
Do you ever go on holiday with a friend? That is great fun, but have you ever thought about what to do if your friend suddenly has to cancel the trip? The cancellation insurance
You can take out cancellation insurance separately or in addition to your travel insurance. With a cancellation insurance you will be reimbursed for costs if you have to cancel a trip unexpectedly or have to interrupt a trip. Please note that insurers charge a maximum amount that you can receive back in case of cancellation. You can choose this amount yourself when taking out the insurance. It is also important that you must have a good reason for cancellation in order to have the costs reimbursed. Valid reasons for cancellation include, for example:
- Death of a close family member
- Divorce
- Involuntary unemployment after permanent employment
- Major damage to the vacation property
- A medically necessary surgery
- Your travel companion cancels and you must otherwise vacation alone
Your travel companion cancels
If your travel companion cancels and you are left alone, this is usually a valid reason for the cancellation insurer to cancel the trip. However, many insurers impose a number of conditions on this. The cause of the cancellation must be valid and therefore insured and the travelling companion must be mentioned on the booking form. Finally, most insurers will not reimburse you if you can also rely on the cancellation insurance of your travel companion. Taking out cancellation insurance

If you do this later than 7 days after booking the trip, the trip is no longer covered by the insurance. You can still take out travel insurance just before your trip.
