With legal expense insurance, you can choose your own coverage by selecting modules. This allows you to tailor the insurance to your specific needs. One of the modules is the “work” legal expense module. This module is also sometimes referred to as the “income” module. What exactly is covered under this module?
Legal Assistance for Labor Disputes
With the “Work” module, you’re guaranteed legal assistance in the event of a labor dispute. Are you involved in a labor dispute with your employer? Legal assistance insurance provides support for both mediation and litigation.
Please note: You are not covered if the labor dispute had already arisen before you purchased your legal expense insurance.
Legal expense insurance is not mandatory, but it has proven to be very useful in practice. Do you work abroad? In certain disputes, insurers may only provide coverage in the Netherlands and not throughout Europe. Be sure to pay close attention to this.

What to Do If You Are Laid Off
You may be terminated. There are several possible reasons for this: your employer may feel you are not performing adequately, you may be on long-term sick leave, or you may be laid off due to a reorganization. If this happens, you’ll want to resolve the situation as best as possible. It’s not always possible to reach a mutual agreement with your employer. With the “Employment” legal assistance module, you’re guaranteed legal assistance.
If you find yourself in one of the situations described above, there are a few things you can do on your own, if possible:
- Talk to your employer to find a solution
- Keep all correspondence (emails and/or letters) from and with your employer
- Please let us know if there is anything you don't understand, and ask for further explanation or clarification.
- Ask your employer to put the proposal in writing. Make sure you don't agree to the proposal right away and that you're given time to think it over.
In the event of a company's bankruptcy or reorganization
If the company you work for goes bankrupt or undergoes a reorganization, you could lose your job. You may not have been paid for some time due to financial problems within the company. With legal expense insurance, you’ll receive help figuring out what you’re entitled to in this situation and who to turn to if you need legal assistance.
If a temporary contract is not renewed
If you have a temporary contract, your employer must follow the same rules for termination during the term of the contract as it would for a permanent contract. This means the contract cannot simply be terminated early if you are not performing well or if there is less work. When determining whether the termination is legally valid, you can rely on your legal expense insurance.
Please note: You are not covered if you were terminated before taking out your legal expense insurance.
