Scooter insurance policy terms and conditions.

No one goes through the policy terms of a scooter insurance policy of their own free will. They are often boring and difficult to read. Nevertheless, they are important, which is why we are happy to explain some of the parts of the policy terms and conditions for you.

Policy conditions for scooter insurance

What is the excess in the scooter insurance?

The deductible is the portion of the damage that is for your own account. Not all insurers apply a deductible. If they do, it is often an amount up to € 150. For a damage of € 1,000, you will be paid € 850, assuming an excess of € 150. Insurers often use an excess to raise the threshold for claiming damages.

Young drivers often pay a higher premium until they are 24 years old. Insurers do this because, compared to older drivers, they are more likely to incur damage. Some insurers also charge additional deductibles if the damage was incurred by a young driver.

Scooter insurance cancellation

Scooter insurance has a standard term of one year. After the first year of insurance, the insurance is renewed again for one year. After the first year of insurance, however, the insurance can be cancelled daily. Some insurers do use a notice period of one month. This is allowed. When canceling the scooter insurance on April 5, the insurer may then terminate the insurance as of May 5. When selling the scooter, the scooter insurance can be cancelled immediately. This makes sense because there is nothing left to insure. Even during the first year, the insurance can be cancelled when the scooter is sold.

Damage control by the insurer

For damage repair, insurers use damage control. This means that you should preferably have your scooter repaired at a repair shop designated by the insurer. They do damage control by, for example, lowering the own risk if you go to the connected damage repairer.

Driving with alcohol on

Insurers are strict when it comes to damage where the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The insurer has the right to recover the amount of the damage from the person who caused it. In a liability case, the damage to the other party will be compensated. The insurer can then send the drunk driver an invoice for the damages. This type of damage recovery can involve large sums of money.

Other exclusions

In the policy conditions there are more situations where there is no coverage. For instance participating in speed contests or renting out the scooter. Also if you drive without a valid driving licence, the scooter insurance will not provide cover.

Guarantee

In the event of a collision abroad, you may face bail. In extreme cases, the scooter may be confiscated. It is even possible that you yourself may end up in jail. You will then get the scooter back on payment of a deposit. The insurance company will take care of this. Even if bail is needed to get you out of jail again.
