Claim-free years
The more claim-free years you have, the more premium discount you get. But how can you see how many claim-free years you have? Claim-free years can be requested in 2 ways. With your insurance company or with Roy-data.
Compare car insuranceClaim-free years
By driving claim-free, you build up claim-free years. Having or not having claim-free years makes a big difference to your car insurance. By claim-free driving, you can build up to 80% discount with most insurers. The car insurance must be in your name.
Don't claim any damage during the insurance year? That entitles you to 1 claim-free year. By claiming a damage, on the other hand, you lose claim-free years. You can also have negative claim-free years .
Claim-free years are on your policy
Starting January 1, 2014, you will be told every year how many claim-free years you have. On the policy of the car insurance, most insurers do not state how many claim-free years you have. Often it does say which bonus-malus step you are on or how much discount you get on your premium.
Here's how to request claim-free years
Want to do a premium comparison with another insurance company? Then you want to know how many claim-free years you have. You can make an estimate based on the bonus-malus step or discount percentage, but this is not completely reliable.
There are 2 ways to retrieve your claim-free years:
1
Through your insurer
The fastest choice for claim-free years retrieval? Contact your insurer. They have the most up-to-date data. That way you know where you stand.
2
Via Roy data
You can also request claim-free years in a digital system called Roy-data. Roy-data contains cancellation data, such as the number of claim-free years.
Submit your request to retrieve your data from Roy data via the EPS Foundation website. To do so, complete the right of inspection form. You only need to fill in some personal data and add a copy of your ID. Permission for inspection takes a maximum of 28 days.
Number of claim-free years not correct
Does it appear after inspection that your Roy-data data is not correct? Then contact the insurer that registered the claim-free years. The insurer can then adjust the incorrect claim-free years. There is no point in contacting Stichting EPS for this.
Validity of claim-free years
Claim-free years are normally linked to a car insurance policy. If the claim-free years are no longer linked to a car insurance policy, their validity is limited. Non-linked claim-free years are still valid for 3 years with most insurers. However, this varies per insurer.
Request lease statement
Did you own a leased car? You can request the claim-free years via a lease statement. You can prove that you did not drive any damage during the period that you had a company car or a private lease car. You can request the lease statement from your lease company.
Carry over claim-free years
Want to make sure your claim-free years don't expire? Then you can transfer (part of) your claim-free years. This can also be useful in the event of a divorce or when breaking a cohabitation contract where you have accumulated the claim-free years together.
Claiming damage-free years of moped or scooter
Claim-free years for your moped or scooter are not visible in Roy-data. Do you want to know how many claim-free years you have accumulated for your moped or scooter? Please contact your insurer.
