Where is the policy number located on the green card?

When you purchase auto insurance, the insurer will provide you with a policy number. This policy number is linked to your insurance policy. After purchasing the insurance, you will also receive a green card from your insurer. A green card is an international proof of insurance that allows you to demonstrate that your car is insured. The Green Card contains the most important details about your auto insurance, such as the insured license plate number, the period during which the car is insured, the countries in which the car is insured, the card number, and the insurer’s contact information. Your policy number is also listed on your Green Card, but where exactly? In this article, we’ll explain it to you.

What is the auto insurance policy number?

When you purchase auto insurance, you are assigned a policy number. A policy number is a personal, unique code under which the insurer or broker registers your auto insurance. Your policy number is always listed on the policy statement you receive from the insurer. You’ll need the policy number to make changes to your auto insurance, report a claim, or cancel your policy. The policy number is also listed on your green card and is part of the green card number.

Difference Between Policy Number and Green Card Number

The policy number and the Green Card number are two different numbers. However, your policy number is part of the Green Card number. The Green Card number is printed on your Green Card and consists of three parts: your auto insurance policy number, the insurer code, and the code for the country where you live. Together, these three parts form the Green Card number. When filling out aEuropean accident report form, you should always enter the Green Card number.

Where exactly is the policy number located on the green card?

You'll find the Green Card number under item 4, "Country Code/Insurer Code/Number," on your Green Card. Below that is the Green Card number, which looks like this:

  • First, the country code: the letters NL
  • This is followed by 3 digits. This is the insurer code.
  • Last but not least is your auto insurance policy number. This is a longer sequence of numbers

Although the green card number is almost the same as the policy number, it is not quite the same.
