What if I use the moped for both business and private use?
Perhaps you use your moped for both business and private purposes. Which type of moped insurance should you take out? A business moped insurance provides coverage for private use as well, but a private moped insurance often does not provide coverage for business use. If you use your moped (also) for business purposes, you should take out a business moped insurance. Even if you use your moped more for private than for business purposes. By business use we mean for example visiting clients, transporting goods, commuting with a company moped or a moped as part of a driving school. Do you use your own moped for commuting? Then this is private use and you do not need to take out a business moped insurance.
Which cover for a business moped insurance?
With business moped insurance, you have a choice of three different coverages: WA, WA+ theft and fire and WA+ theft, fire and collision. In the Netherlands, you are required to have at least a WA insurance for a motor vehicle. This insures you for damage you cause to another person with your moped. This is the basic coverage for moped insurance and therefore the cheapest. Damage to your own moped is not insured with this coverage. For this you can choose the WA+ theft and fire insurance, also called WA limited casco. With this you are, besides liability damage, also insured for damage to your moped by, for example, fire and storm. Theft is also covered. Do you want your moped as insured as possible? Then you can take out an All-risk moped insurance, or WA+ theft, fire and collision insurance. This is the most extensive and therefore most expensive coverage.
Business delivery moped
Do you have a business moped that you use to deliver food, for example as a pizza courier? Then you can take out a separate delivery moped insurance. The use of a moped for delivery brings other risks with it. Research has shown that drivers of delivery mopeds are almost six times more likely to suffer damage than drivers of private motorcycles. In addition, the amount of damage is also 75 percent higher. This makes insuring a delivery moped often a lot more expensive than insuring a private or business moped. Many delivery motorcycles are insured through the insurance company de Vereende. De Vereende is specialised in insuring special risks. Where regular insurance companies drop out, they will accept an application. Keep in mind that the premium is higher than for a regular moped insurance.
