How can I cancel my motorbike insurance?
Motorcycle insurance is a contract between you and an insurer. When you purchase motorcycle insurance, you both sign a contract that sets forth the rights and obligations of both parties. Both you and the insurer are obligated to abide by these rules. Of course, you may want to cancel your motorcycle insurance at some point. You can, but not at any time. Canceling motorcycle insurance can be done at 3 times, which we will explain for you here on Alpina\.nl.

Cancelling motorbike insurance as of contract expiry date
Each insurance contract has a contract expiry date. This is stated on your policy schedule. Most insurance companies apply a notice period of two or three months. You can find the exact term in the policy conditions of your insurance.
Cancelling motor insurance in the event of changes to the conditions or an increase in the premium
Insurers are allowed to increase the premium or change the conditions in the meantime. Does your insurer do this and does this have negative consequences for your motorbike insurance? Then you have 30 days to cancel the policy. Is your premium increased after damage or a change to your policy? Then you cannot simply cancel the insurance. It has to be an increase of the premium or a change that applies to everyone with a current motorbike insurance with that insurer.
Cancelling motorbike insurance when selling your motorbike
Finally, you can terminate your motorbike insurance when you have sold your motorbike. This is possible after the registration number of the motorbike has been transferred to the name of the new owner. The new owner must then ensure that the motorbike is insured. When selling a vehicle, there is no notice period. You have to contact your insurer yourself. The road tax does stop automatically when the registration number is no longer in your name. If you have bought a new motorbike, you can adjust the policy based on your new motorbike.
Winter break cover
Some insurance companies have a winter stop cover. Many motorcyclists do not ride during the winter. Motorcycling is simply more fun when it's dry and the sun is shining than when it's raining or snowing. Moreover, motorbike accidents happen more often in the winter, for example when it is slippery. When you don't drive in the winter, it means you can't cause accidents. Therefore, the risk for your insurer is lower. That means you get a discount on the premium. The winter break usually applies from 15 December to 1 March. Damage caused by fire or theft in the garage is still covered.
Cancel motorbike insurance? Read the policy conditions carefully!
An insurer determines the conditions of the insurance himself. It is therefore possible that one insurer applies different conditions for cancellation than another. This can even differ per insurance. That is why it is important that you read the policy terms and conditions carefully before taking out a motorbike insurance policy. The policy terms and conditions contain all the conditions that apply to your motorbike insurance. Also the conditions regarding cancellation are mentioned in the policy.
