What is frontier insurance?

The border insurance is valid for 15 days. So you can export your car abroad without any worries. Abroad means all of Europe. After 15 days the insurance stops and you are no longer insured. Make sure that you put the end date in your diary!

Third-party liability (WA)

With the Frontier Insurance you are insured for third-party liability. This means that you are insured for damage to other vehicles. Therefore you will not be compensated when you accidentally drive your car against a pole. Also when you cause a traffic accident and your vehicle gets damaged, the damage to your own vehicle will not be compensated. You will, however, be compensated for the damage you caused to the other vehicle.

Europe as the coverage area

You can export your vehicle within the whole of Europe.

When you start exporting a vehicle, you run the risk of falling between two stools. Dutch insurance companies cannot insure vehicles with foreign license plates and often do not want to insure a vehicle temporarily. Foreign insurance companies may refuse you insurance because you are not a resident. Alpina\.nl has special border insurance for these cases.

You can apply for this border insurance and then you will have a 15-day third-party cover that allows you to drive abroad with the vehicle. Please note! This is only legal liability insurance. Any damage to third parties is covered, but not damage to your own vehicle. After these 15 days, the cover lapses automatically.

Cancellation is possible up to the effective date of the Green Card. Once it has started and cover has been received, cancellation is no longer possible.

Do I need a certificate of insurance with border insurance?

The green card is an international insurance certificate and should be accepted as such. Some foreign authorities will only accept it if it is printed on green paper. We therefore advise you not to drive the vehicle until you have received the green card by post. If you are going to drive before then, please print the green card on 'green card paper' (available in bookshops) or other green paper, just to be on the safe side.

Have you printed the card on white paper and does a discussion with the officer arise about this? Then you can explain that it is a valid insurance card and/or ask for another official (who may be better informed). If you cannot find a solution and are forced to incur costs, write down the name of the official. In this way, you can, at home, with or without the help of your legal assistance insurer, start a recovery action against the foreign authority.

Applying for an export licence plate

Unfortunately, we cannot apply for an export licence plate for you.

Cancellation insurance

The insurance can be cancelled up to the effective date of the cover, provided it is on a working day and before 17:00. If the policyholder has or has already had coverage, the green card cannot be cancelled via the right of cancellation.
