License plate

License plates that you DO need to keep with you in the car

However, you must keep the registration certificates below in the car. You are required to show them when asked by the police.

Registration certificate part 1A (vehicle certificate)

This registration certificate contains information about the car itself. The registration certificate is renewed only if it is damaged or missing, or if certain changes have been made to the vehicle.

This registration certificate contains information about the car, such as the registration number on the license plate, make and type of the car, mass, chassis number, year of construction, type of fuel, number of cylinders and the date the registration certificate was issued.

Registration certificate part IB (registration certificate).

The registration certificate contains details of the current registration holder. If the car changes hands, one must transfer the registration certificate and a new registration certificate is issued.

Whenever you take a car onto public roads, you must carry the complete Part I registration certificate (both the vehicle certificate and the registration certificate) and be able to show it to the police upon request.

License plate that you should NOT keep in the car

The registration certificate is needed to transfer the license plate to another name. You should not keep this registration certificate in the car but in a safe place separate from the other registration certificates. If a person comes into possession of both Part I and Part II of the registration certificate, he can transfer the car to his name without difficulty.

Car stolen with all registration documents still in it ... coverage?

Often a condition of car insurance is that if your car is stolen, you must be able to hand over ALL parts of the registration certificate AND the transfer slip. If your car papers are also stolen, a car insurance company may NOT pay out.

Therefore, check the policy terms carefully to determine if there is coverage in your case.
