When do I need caravan insurance?
Often a caravan is used primarily in the spring and summer. That means it is stationary for most of the year. So is it necessary to have caravan insurance? Although caravan insurance is not mandatory, it may be wise. The times you go out with your caravan, you obviously want to enjoy it. Caravan insurance not required by law
When you buy a caravan, you are not obliged to take out a caravan insurance. When you pull the caravan with your car and cause damage to another person, this will be compensated by your WA car insurance. This insurance covers liability damages and is legally required. Is your own caravan also damaged? Then you have to pay the repair costs yourself, because this is not covered by your car insurance. When you want to have this insured as well, you have to take a caravan insurance.
Why take out caravan insurance if you don't need to?
Caravan insurance is therefore not a legal requirement, but it may be sensible. Damage to others is covered by your car insurance (when the caravan is connected to the car) or by your liability insurance (when the caravan is disconnected), but damage to your own caravan is not covered. Imagine that you collide with another driver with your car and caravan. The other driver suffers eye damage, but your own caravan also suffers considerable damage. The damage to the other driver is compensated, but the repair costs to your caravan are at your own expense. Or you are with your caravan at Lake Garda and are attacked by a hailstorm. This leaves a number of large dents in the roof of your caravan. Unfortunately, you are not insured for this without caravan insurance.

Then caravan insurance is usually not necessary because the caravan does not have a high daily value. In case of a very new or expensive caravan, caravan insurance might be wise because the repair costs of a new caravan are much higher.
