What is export insurance?
If you want to export a vehicle, it is difficult to insure it. Many Dutch insurers don't want to temporarily insure a vehicle, and foreign insurers often won't or can't sell you insurance because you are a Dutch resident.
To help you with this, Alpina has export insurance for you.
Valid for 15 days
Export insurance is valid for 15 days. In these 15 days, you can move your vehicle abroad. Export insurance can be taken out on the license plate and cannot be renewed. The effective date of the insurance cannot be more than one month in the future. After 15 days, coverage automatically expires.
Europe as the coverage area
You can export your vehicle within all of Europe.
Third-party liability (WA)
The insurance only provides coverage for damage to other vehicles (legal liability, third-party damage). It does not cover damage to your own vehicle.
For private individuals only
This insurance is only available to individuals. So for business purposes, you cannot take out export insurance.
International insurance certificate for export insurance
The international certificate of insurance, or green card, is issued by Alpina. After 15 days, coverage automatically expires. Export insurance is cancelable up to the effective date of the green card, but once coverage has started, it cannot be canceled.
Take out and pay directly online
Through our site you can arrange and pay the export insurance directly and easily online via iDEAL. The green card will be sent to you immediately after receipt of payment via e-mail and by mail the next working day.
We recommend that you wait until you get the green card before driving the vehicle. If that is not possible, you can also print the green card. In that case, do so on "green card paper" (available in bookstores) or other green paper, otherwise you run the risk that the insurance certificate will not be accepted by foreign customs officials.
Even on white paper the insurance certificate is legally valid and you can declare it as such to the official. However, this will cause delays and you may still be required to pay additional expenses that you will have to recover from the foreign authorities (for which you may need your legal assistance insurance ). You probably do not want this kind of hassle. Tip! If necessary, ask for another customs official who may be aware of the laws and regulations and/or make a note of the name of the official(s).
Frequently asked questions about export insurance
How can I cancel an export insurance policy?
The insurance can be cancelled up to the effective date of the cover, provided it is on a working day and before 17:00. If the policyholder is or has been covered, the green card cannot be cancelled via the right of cancellation.
Can export insurance be extended?
The 15-day export insurance cannot be renewed. If the vehicle has a foreign license plate, then you must obtain insurance in the country for which the license plate was issued.
Can the third-party cover be extended?
It is not possible to extend the third-party cover. The export insurance provides an exclusive 15-day WA coverage. So there is no coverage for damage to the own car.
