Youngtimer insurance comparison and conclusion

Youngtimer insurance is cheaper than regular car insurance. Whether a car is considered a youngtimer varies by insurer and depends on age, make and use.

To calculate premiums, we need the zip code of the primary driver. For private use, the youngest driver must reside at the same address as the applicant. In case of business use, you can enter the postal code of the company here.

All about a youngtimer

The youngtimer is the designation for vehicles, usually passenger cars, that are not yet old enough to be considered vintage cars. So a youngtimer is actually a "young oldtimer," usually cars from 15 to 25 years old. There are some insurers who consider certain cars as young-timers as young as 10 years old.

To be considered a youngtimer, the car must meet certain conditions:

  • The car must be at least 15 years old. (In some cases, cars of at least 10 years old are considered youngtimer)
  • You have another car for daily use in addition to the youngtimer.
  • The car is used as a hobby, not for commuting.
  • You are allowed to drive a maximum number of kilometers per year with the car. Often this is a maximum of 5,000 or 7,500 kilometers.
When is a car a youngtimer?

A youngtimer is in fact a "young old-timer", mostly these are cars of 15 to 25 years old. There are some insurers who consider certain cars to be youngtimers from 10 years of age.

Most youngtimers will become classics in the future. It is therefore usually a model that is no longer in production or of which not many were made.

When are you eligible for youngtimer insurance?

Youngtimer insurance is only offered by a small number of insurers. If your car meets the above points, you can take out the special youngtimer insurance. To take out this insurance a valuation report is needed. This has to do with the fact that in case of a total loss you are compensated for the appraised value. With a regular car insurance you normally get at total loss the daily value.

Another advantage of youngtimer insurance is that you often pay less premium than with regular car insurance. It is taken into account by the insurer that you use the car as a hobby and do few miles.

What insurance coverage with a Youngtimer?

When choosing car insurance for your youngtimer, you should pay close attention to the additional terms and conditions set by the insurer. There may be restrictions on the number of miles you can drive per year. Sometimes you can insure the youngtimer only cheaper as a second car. With car insurance for a second car, owning a car for daily use is mandatory. That is, you may use the youngtimer only on a hobby basis and drive a maximum of 7500 kilometers per year.

Because a youngtimer is a relatively young car, you can also insure this car for daily use. You can directly calculate the premium for your car at the bottom of this page and take out car insurance if you wish.

WA

Third-party liability (TPL) insurance is required by law for every car owner. This coverage provides compensation for liability damages to the other party.

WA limited casco

With WA limited hull insurance , you will also be paid for fire damage, broken windows and damage caused by a collision with stray animals.

All-risk

All-risk insurance is the most comprehensive coverage. With this, damage to your own vehicle due to collisions is also compensated by your own insurer. Furthermore, vandalism damage is also insured with the all-risk insurance.
All-risk insurance is the most logical choice for cars up to 6 years old.

In addition to the above coverages, it is possible to purchase additional insurance. These include accident passenger insurance and damage passenger insurance.

How does the youngtimer scheme work?

The youngtimer scheme was created in 2016. This scheme means that the additional taxable value of 35 percent is calculated on the daily value of the vehicle instead of the list value. Because the daily value of the vehicle is quite a bit lower than the list value, this can be very beneficial for business owners when considering purchasing a company car. Entrepreneurs are more or less rewarded by the tax authorities in this way. You do not drive a new car and it is then disproportionate to pay additional tax on the list value.

What are the advantages of a youngtimer?

A youngtimer is a relatively inexpensive car. Depreciation on cars is high. From the moment you leave the dealership with a new car, its value drops immediately. Buying a youngtimer can save you a lot of money. Youngtimers are popular. Generally, youngtimers are offered with low odometer readings. For a 15-year-old car, a odometer reading of 100,000 kilometers is not much. Partly because of the low odometer readings and the attractive price, youngtimers are very popular.

Compare Youngtimer insurance

Even if you already currently have youngtimer insurance, it never hurts to compare different youngtimer insurance policies. Comparison always pays off. After entering the license plate number and some additional data you immediately get an overview of the different possibilities. You get an overview of the different insurers including premiums and additional conditions. Also want to know if and how much you can save? On our website a no-obligation calculation is quickly made.

Youngtimer tax

The moment your car is 15 years old, chances are you can call it a youngtimer. From that moment on, if you drive the car for business and private use, you will pay 35 percent additional tax on the daily value of your car. The daily value is determined by the tax authorities on the basis of the market value (WEV). Most insurers, however, have the current market value determined by a specialized appraiser. This appraiser not only looks at the average market value, but also at the individual facets. As a result, the current market value determined by the Tax Office is often lower than the value assigned by the insurer.

Youngtimer road tax

For a youngtimer, unlike vintage cars 40 years and older, you do have to pay road tax. Only fully electric cars are exempt from road tax. The amount of road tax for the youngtimer depends on a number of factors. These include your zip code, the weight of the youngtimer and the fuel the youngtimer runs on. When you lease a youngtimer, usually your employer or leasing company pays the road tax and it is included in the lease payment.

All about the Youngtimer scheme

The big advantage of the youngtimer scheme is that the car has a small annual depreciation and you pay less as a result.

Although the insurance premium will remain the same each year, a youngtimer becomes cheaper each year. This is because the car gets older and the addition is calculated on the daily value. Because the daily value of the car decreases, you also pay less additional tax.

Youngtimer scheme private persons

Not only for entrepreneurs is the youngtimer scheme interesting. Also for private persons this regulation offers advantages. Are you considering buying a youngtimer as a private person? There are certainly also interesting plus points for individuals. Apart from the fact that a youngtimer, in comparison with new(er) cars is a lot more affordable, for many people it is also a piece of nostalgia. The depreciation of a youngtimer is minimal. Thus, youngtimers from brands such as BMW, Volvo, Mercedes and Audi are also very popular with individuals. The more luxurious cars that seemed unaffordable for many people are now financially within reach.

Youngtimer scheme 2021

The youngtimer scheme in 2021 will remain the same as in previous years. Also in 2021, the additional tax rate is 35 percent (maximum) over the daily value of the car. For fully electric cars this is 17 percent. However, there are still few fully electric youngtimers. This will increase over the years as the electric car is produced more frequently compared to years ago.

Youngtimer scheme ZZP

A youngtimer can also be a good option for a self-employed person. As a ZZP'er you can also use the business car privately. When you drive 500 kilometers or more privately with a business car you have to pay an additional taxable benefit. A certain percentage of the value of the car is added to your income and you have to pay income tax on it. For youngtimers this percentage is higher than for younger cars, but the big advantage is that this percentage is levied on the daily value. So you still pay much less tax on your business youngtimer.

Youngtimer insurance

For a youngtimer, you can purchase what is known as youngtimer insurance. As you have read above, there are three different types of coverage to choose from. A youngtimer is not very often all-risk insured. This coverage is usually chosen for new cars. However, you can choose to insure the youngtimer with limited casco. In addition to damage caused by the other party (third-party), fire damage, broken windows and damage caused by collision with stray animals are also covered.
