View Roydata

The Roy-data register is a central database where insurers keep track of how many claim-free years you have. This determines how much no-claim discount you get when you take out car insurance. Roy-data makes it easy to take your claim-free years with you when you switch to another insurer.

What is Roy data?

Roy-data is the central database in the Netherlands in which claim-free years of motor insurance are registered. Your claim-free years remain with your insurance as long as it is active. When you stop the insurance, they are passed on to Roy-data.

With Roy-data, the insurer can quickly and reliably calculate your no-claims discount so you know where you stand right away. You used to need a paper cancellation certificate to prove no-claim years. Taking out car insurance is now a lot faster.

The system also prevents people from claiming claim-free years with multiple insurers at the same time.

Important to know

Only claim-free years from insurance policies in your own name are recorded.

Lease contracts or business insurance policies are often not in your name and therefore are usually not included in Roy-data. You need a lease declaration for this.

Claim-free years in Roy-data expire after 3 years if you do not have insurance in your name.

Viewing Roy data

You or your agent cannot view the claim-free years yourself online or retrieve them over the phone. Only an insurance company can access this database directly. There are a number of ways you can still view Roy data.

Want to know how many claim-free years you have? Here's how to view your claim-free years:

Step 1
Check your claim-free years on your policy schedule.
Step 2
Contact your insurer if your insurance is still active. Claim-free years do not appear in the database until the insurance is discontinued.
Step 3
Make a request to the EPS Foundation. This is the organization that manages the Roy data register.

Complete the inspection form, send it along with a copy of your ID. Please note that this may take up to 28 days.

You can find more information about Roy-data on the website of Stichting Efficien Processen Schadeverzekeraars.

My data is not correct

Think your claim-free years are not properly listed in Roy-data? Contact the insurer that registered it. Stichting EPS cannot adjust this; only the insurer can correct the error.

Always check your information carefully, especially if you are switching to another car insurance company. This will help you avoid problems.

Roy Data system not always up to date

Please note that data in the Roy data system is not always current. Claim-free years are not updated until an insurance policy stops. So the data is updated as soon as the insurance is terminated.

Do you still have a current car insurance policy? Then your claim-free years are not yet in Roy-data. Have you already reported damage with your new car insurance? Then you will lose your claim-free years and go one step back on the bonus malus ladder.

Claim-free years expire

Claim-free years do not remain valid indefinitely after ending a car insurance policy. With most insurers, they last for 3 years, but this varies by insurance company.

With some insurers this is only two years, while others record claim-free years as long as 4 or 5 years. Therefore, always check how long your claim-free years remain valid with your insurer.

Frequently asked questions about Roy data

How does the Roy-data system for claim-free years work?

Roy-data is a central database in which claim-free years of car owners are registered. After termination of a policy, insurers upload the number of accrued claim-free years, including any claims. New insurers consult this system to apply the correct no-claim discount.

How long are claim-free years stored in Roy data?

Damage-free years remain in Roy-data for up to 3 years after your car insurance is terminated. If you take out new insurance within this period, the years can be used again. After this period, they expire and you start again at zero.

Who has access to my Roy data?

Only car insurance companies affiliated with the EPS Foundation have access to Roy data, and only when you apply for insurance with them. Your data is not public and is protected according to the AVG.

What should I do if my claim-free years have not been transferred?

Contact your previous insurer directly. They are responsible for supplying your details correctly to Roy-data. Provide supporting documents, such as old policy sheets or claim-free years statements, to speed up correction.

How is Roy data used when switching auto insurance?

When switching, the new insurer consults Roy-data to verify your claim-free years. On this basis they determine your premium and no-claim discount. This happens automatically and prevents misunderstandings about discounts.
