Do not underestimate the danger of a quad bike

A quad bike is a cool mode of transportation, but there are serious dangers for drivers. Years ago, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned Dutch people against driving a quad bike while on vacation. They have a good reason for that, too. During the summer months, many people are injured every year, mainly due to inexperience and underestimation of the power of a quad bike. What is especially the danger and what tips can you benefit from?

A quad bike is unstable

Drivers may feel like they are driving a car, but a quad bike is much more unstable. A slightly too abrupt steering motion can cause the vehicle to flip over. To avoid the rollover, you can then run off the road. More experienced drivers know this. Inexperienced drivers are especially at risk.

In the event of an accident, there is hardly any protection

In a car, you can benefit from airbags in an accident, and you are also protected by a roll cage. On a quad bike, you can be launched by an accident. Actually, driving it is similar to driving a motorcycle. Even a small steering error can be life-threatening. Always keep this in mind.

It is not a toy

Drivers in particular create the danger. In fact, when the vehicle is used sensibly, the danger is not so great. But drivers often become overconfident and start driving quad bikes irresponsibly fast. This combined with inexperience can create great dangers. Fast acceleration and cornering at high speed is irresponsible behavior.

Ten times more likely to have a serious accident

Compared to driving a car, you are 10 times more likely to have a serious accident with a quad bike. This is according to a German study. The age group between 18 and 24 is particularly at risk.
