When comparing auto insurance policies, pay particular attention to the amount of the premium and the type of insurance. But the amount of the deductible is also a weighty factor when choosing insurance. This is because the differences between what insurers charge in the event of a claim is large.

In case of damage, you don't want any nasty surprises afterwards. A high deductible is often overlooked when choosing between car insurance policies. In case of damage, it often becomes clear how much you have to pay yourself. When comparing via our website, we therefore emphasize how much deductible the various insurers charge.

How much is standard car insurance?

Many insurers apply a deductible of €100 to €150, but there are also outliers. There are insurers who keep the premium low, but in combination with a deductible of, say, €500. There are also insurers that do not charge a deductible.

Discount on the deductible

Do you have your car damage repaired by a repairer with whom the insurer has agreements? The insurer may reward this with a discount on the deductible. This discount may even reduce your own contribution to the damage to zero. It pays to look into this when comparing car insurance policies.

Rather pay a little more per month

Even if you never have damage, you still should not agree to a high deductible. Damage can happen to you once. A claim on your car insurance policy may increase your insurance premium. With also an increased deductible, the financial damage of a claim on the policy is quite large.

In exchange for a discount?

Insurers would prefer to have as many policyholders on their books as possible. Insurers who cannot compete with other insurers in terms of premiums are looking for ways to disguise the high premium. By increasing the deductible, they can reduce the premium slightly and possibly compete again. There are dozens of insurers, so you can probably find an insurer with a reasonable premium and no high excess in case of damage. Getting good and cheap insurance remains a matter of comparison.

Don't wait for a damage

How much do you now pay yourself after a claim? Find out before you are faced with it. Insurers charge widely varying amounts that they place on policyholders themselves in the event of a claim. After your car insurance has been in effect for at least one year, you can cancel the contract daily. Possibly the insurer does charge a one-month notice period, but after that at least the saving can begin.
