Directly insured with provisional coverage
Have you applied for car insurance? We send the application directly to the insurer. You will receive an email stating whether or not you have provisional coverage. Then you know whether your car is immediately insured or not.
With provisional coverage, you are insured immediately and may hit the road. The car insurance has already taken effect, but the final acceptance and policy still follow. You are fully insured. Do you sustain damage during this period with provisional coverage? Then your car is insured as usual.
What should I do if I don't get provisional coverage?
Don't get provisional coverage? Then you are not immediately insured and may not use the car yet. In that case, the insurer must first manually review and approve the application. This does not have to take a long time. On average, it takes 1 hour and in some cases it can be done in as little as 10 minutes. In the longest case, it takes up to 48 hours.
It is possible that after getting preliminary coverage, the application for auto insurance may still be rejected. We will then contact you to discuss your options.
Not insured right away? Then don't go on the road!
Of course, it's annoying if you don't get provisional coverage right away. Nevertheless, it is very unwise to go on the road with your car. Driving around in an uninsured car is a criminal offense. You risk a fine of €490 (offense code A915) from the Police if they stop you. Do you cause damage with an uninsured car? Then you pay all the costs yourself.
And is the car uninsured in your name for too long? Then you will be registered with the CIS Foundation. Many normal insurance companies no longer accept you when you want to take out an insurance. Car insurance through the Vereende is then the only option.
Not directly insured or rejected? Insure your car via the Vereende
Is your car not immediately insured after taking out car insurance? Or is your application rejected altogether? Then you can always turn to insurance company de Vereende. No matter the reason for the rejection, in most cases the Vereende still accepts the application.
Always go through the application for car insurance with a regular company first and wait until you get an email with information about provisional coverage. In most cases, you will receive provisional coverage and thus be insured immediately.

Frequently asked questions about insuring your car directly
Can I go on the road right away with provisional coverage?
Yes, with many insurers, you will get provisional coverage as soon as you take out car insurance. This means you are insured while the insurer evaluates your application. Please note that if your application is rejected, coverage will expire and you will need to arrange another insurance policy.
What happens if I don't insure my car right away?
In the Netherlands, you are required by law to have at least third-party insurance on your car as soon as it is registered in your name. If you do not, you risk a fine from the RDW and possibly a higher risk in case of damage. In addition, you are not allowed to drive without insurance, which can cause extra costs and problems.
What types of auto insurance policies can I buy directly?
You can choose directly from 3 main types of car insurance: WA (Third Party Liability), WA+ (Limited Comprehensive) and Allrisk (Fully Comprehensive). WA is compulsory and the cheapest option, while Allrisk offers the most comprehensive coverage. Which insurance is best depends on the age and value of your car.
Are there any additional fees when purchasing auto insurance directly?
No, you don't pay an additional cost to insure your car immediately. It is a car insurance policy that starts immediately provided you are accepted with provisional coverage.
Can I change an instant car insurance policy later?
Yes, you can change your car insurance later. For example, by increasing or decreasing coverage, adding another supplemental insurance policy or changing your deductible. Keep in mind that some changes may affect your premium. Please contact us if you have any questions about this.
What if I regret after taking out the insurance?
You have a statutory cooling-off period of 14 days to cancel the insurance without charge, unless you have already claimed damages within that period. After this period, you can usually cancel the insurance with one month's notice. The conditions vary by insurer. Therefore, check the policy conditions carefully to see what applies to your situation.
Am I immediately insured for damages after taking out my car insurance?
Yes, once you take out car insurance and get provisional coverage, you are immediately insured. This means that in the event of a claim, you can claim the coverage you have chosen. Final insurance approval may still follow, but as long as the provisional coverage is in place, you are insured according to the policy terms.
What happens if I drive damage before my application is approved?
In principle, if you drive damage while you have provisional coverage, it will be reimbursed according to the coverage you have chosen. However, if your application is later rejected (for example, due to a negative claims history or fraud), the insurer can still recover the damage from you. Therefore, always check that your application is complete and correct and do not go on the road without insurance.
