You mainly take out caravan insurance in case something happens to you during your vacation. Insuring the caravan provides security and peace of mind. In case of calamities with the caravan, you can rely on the caravan insurance.

Caravan insurance provides year-round coverage, but insurance is especially important at the time you use the caravan during the vacation weeks. While in storage, for example, the caravan could catch fire, but especially when you are out and about with the caravan, things need to be taken care of.

Caravan insurance? Calculate your premium!

Check caravan and caravan insurance before departure

Breakdown on the road should be avoided, so have the caravan checked again. You can take a critical look at caravan insurance yourself. Take out your current policy and go to Alpina.nl to see if you can get more coverage at a lower premium. If the insurance was taken out at least one year ago, you can cancel the old caravan insurance policy. Do not wait until you are about to go on vacation to do this, as the current insurer may give one month's notice.

How much deductible do you pay in the event of a claim?

Keep in mind that some caravan insurance policies may be cheap, but in the event of a claim, you may pay a large portion of the damage yourself. This is because some insurers apply a (high) deductible. It is better to compare caravan insurance and choose the best insurance. Preferably also at the lowest premium and without a deductible.

Is hail damage reimbursed?

You can choose whether to include hail damage insurance. Around Lake Garda and in parts of France, heavy hailstorms are relatively more frequent. But that does not mean that damage caused by a hailstorm does not occur within the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, heavy showers are increasingly common. From these, stones can fall with the size of golf balls or even larger. Don't save on caravan insurance by excluding hail damage. In a severe downpour, damage can run into the thousands of euros, so be sure to include the risk. Coverage applies both in the Netherlands and abroad. Before you leave, check whether hail damage is insured.

Separate green card for a trailer

Are you going abroad with a trailer or caravan? You may need to apply for a second green card for your trailer or caravan. In the Netherlands, trailers and caravans are (co-)insured on the third-party insurance of the towing vehicle. Your green card will then mention the code AF. Are you going to Germany, Poland or Spain with a trailer or caravan? Then you need a second green card if your trailer or caravan is heavier than 750 kg. These heavy trailers or caravans have their own license plates. Therefore, in these countries you need a second green card on the license plate of the trailer or caravan. If you need a separate green card for your trailer or caravan we advise you to apply for a (separate) green card early. Click here for the 8 things you need to know about a green card.

In the event of an emergency, contact the emergency center

You can also rely on caravan insurance while on the road. In case of theft, you can call for help through the insurer's emergency number. Some caravan insurance policies also offer roadside assistance. For example, you can think of replacement transportation. When comparing at Alpina.nl , we indicate whether the insurer also offers assistance with caravan insurance.

Check your policy carefully before you drive south. While you're looking, it's also best to take a moment to compare your caravan insurance with what other insurers can offer you. You can of course do that at Alpina.nl.
