Get car insurance without a check

Taking out car insurance without a check is not possible. This is because insurers want to know if you have made claims in the past or if you are (or have been) a defaulter. Even then, you can always take out car insurance.

To calculate premiums, we need the zip code of the primary driver. For private use, the youngest driver must reside at the same address as the applicant. In case of business use, you can enter the postal code of the company here.

Why insurers check an insurance application

Getting regular car insurance is not always easy. Insurers look critically at your past before accepting you as a customer. Especially if you've had to deal with an expulsion, claims or late payments in the past.

Insurers check this with a number of underwriting questions because they like to minimize risk. Here, an insurer looks at your claim history, payment history and your personal situation, such as a recent move or previous financial problems. A check is unfortunately mandatory when buying car insurance.

Acceptance Questions

Do you want to switch or buy new insurance? If so, you always have to answer a number of underwriting questions when taking out new insurance. These questions cover things like your claims history, whether you have ever been denied or disbarred by an insurer before, and whether you have had traffic convictions. They also ask about the use of the car (personal, business, courier services) and the number of claim-free years you have accumulated.

With this information, insurers assess your risk profile as a consumer. On this basis, they determine whether you will be accepted, what coverage they offer and what your premium will be. Always give honest and complete answers, because inaccurate information can lead to problems later on, for example in case of damage or a claim.

Risk analysis

An insurer prefers to pay out as few claims as possible. Also because otherwise they have to increase the premium for their customers. So they prefer to have policyholders without problems. That's why they do a risk analysis.

In this risk analysis, drivers ' car type, driving history and driving privileges, among other factors, are considered in the assessment. They look at how high the risk is of having to pay compensation in the future.

For example, young drivers with little to no claim-free years are a greater risk than experienced drivers with 15 claim-free years. Similarly, seniors are a greater risk.

Situations where you are rejected

In the following situations, chances of rejection are high:

  • You have a CIS registration (e.g. for non-payment, fraud or expulsion)
  • You have a negative claims history (many claims or questionable claims)
  • You have accumulated negative claim-free years
  • You were previously disbarred by another insurer
  • You provide incorrect or incomplete information with your application
  • You have a criminal record or driving disqualification (traffic-related)
  • Your car is used for high-risk purposes such as courier work or rental, without appropriate insurance
  • You previously failed to make premium payments
  • You are not registered at the same address as the previous policy (in the case of family structures)

Never go on the road uninsured

You are required once the car is in your name and has a license plate to have insurance. Having trouble getting car insurance? Not getting car insurance is not an option.

If you go on the road with an uninsured car, there is a chance that you will be fined. The RDW and the Police can check whether a car is insured. Driving an uninsured car can also lead to (more) fines and a registration with the CIS Foundation.

A CIS registration

If you are registered with the CIS Foundation, chances are your application will be rejected. With a CIS registration, you almost always pay more for insurance. A CIS registration can arise from a variety of causes. Examples include damage driving, late payment or loss of driving privileges.

It is important to always be honest about your CIS registration when applying for auto insurance. Are you lying about your application or not telling everything? Your requested insurance can also be canceled afterwards. So be open about your situation.

Get car insurance without a check

If you are registered with Stichting CIS, chances are that a regular insurer will not accept you. You can then always turn to a special car insurer such as the Vereende. De Vereende offers a solution for people who have been refused by regular car insurers. In practice it turns out that acceptance for the special car insurance at the Vereende is almost always possible.

You can request an indication of your premium directly from Alpina. It is important to always give an honest answer to the underwriting questions at Vereende as well.

The underwriting requirements of the Vereende

The Vereende does have some underwriting requirements for underwriting:

  • Your application for car insurance will not be accepted by a regular company.
  • You must pay 3 months of premium in advance, even if you choose monthly payment.
  • The insurance will take effect only upon receipt of the initial premium and a signed application form.
  • You pay a deposit of an average of €175.00. You pay this when you take out the insurance. The insurer can use this deposit to cover outstanding premiums. At the end of the insurance, the deposit can be offset against any outstanding amounts. If there is no claim or outstanding premium at the end of the insurance, you will be refunded the full amount.

Saving on your insurance premium

Saving on your car insurance starts with determining the right coverage. This depends entirely on your personal situation. Is third-party insurance sufficient or do you prefer all-risk? If you choose only third-party, your insurance premium will be cheaper. Always read carefully the conditions of a particular insurance so you know what is and what is not insured.

Sometimes it can be wise to drive a cheap car with third-party insurance for a while so you can rebuild claim-free years and your CIS registration has expired.

Higher deductible car insurance

When taking out car insurance, you can often opt for a higher deductible. In case of damage, you first pay a larger portion yourself before the insurer pays out. The advantage of this is that your premium for car insurance is usually lower.

A higher deductible may seem attractive because of lower monthly costs, but in the event of a claim, you may have to pay a lot yourself. Consider whether you have that money.

Frequently asked questions about car insurance without a check

Does car insurance exist without a check?

No, every insurer conducts some form of underwriting check. De Vereende has a broader underwriting policy. They also accept customers with a difficult insurance history, such as in the event of cancellation or many claims.

Can I get car insurance without checking claim-free years?

No, this is always checked. Insurers want to know how many claim-free years you have accumulated to determine your premium. Do you have no, negative or few years? Then you can still be insured, but the premium is often higher.

Can I be insured without a CIS or Roy-Data check?

Basically, no. Almost all regular insurers check the Central Information System (CIS) and Roy-Data with a new application. They use these systems to check your claim history and previous cancellations. This registration is visible to all affiliated insurers.

You can, however, get insurance from a provider willing to accept clients with a CIS report, such as the Vereende. At the Vereende you are checked and almost always accepted.

We immediately give you an indication of the premium with the Vereende.

Will my credit rating (BKR) be checked when I purchase auto insurance?

No, insurers do not do a BKR check like banks do. Your financial situation is included only if you have had insurance terminated in the past for non-payment, for example.

What are my options if regular insurers refuse me?

If you have had multiple refusals, you can turn to a specialized insurer such as the Vereende. They are there for people who have difficulty getting insured elsewhere. Do keep in mind higher premiums and additional conditions such as a deposit.

Can I insure my car today without a check?

Yes, with most online insurers you can be insured within minutes. As long as your information is correct and there are no risk signals, you will receive your policy by mail almost immediately. With the Vereende, it sometimes takes a little longer because of additional requirements.

Can I just switch to another insurer or buy a new car insurance policy?

Yes, you can basically switch to another car insurance company at any time, especially if you have no special registrations. Do you have no CIS registration and have been claim-free or nicely insured? Then you can easily take out a new car insurance policy.

Do you do have a CIS registration? Then switching can be more difficult. Regular insurers often refuse such applications. In that case you can turn to the Vereende.
