For now, Tesla is selling more vehicles than Polestar in the Netherlands, but Polestar is well on its way to becoming as big as Tesla or perhaps even bigger, according to research by Alpina. The Polestar 2 is a direct alternative to the Tesla Model 3.

Polestar is an electric performance car brand from Sweden, jointly owned by Volvo Car Group and Zhejiang Geely Holding.

Polestar 2 shoots out of the starting blocks

Whereas only about 16 Polestars were sold in August this year, by mid-September the counter already stands at 147 Polestars. This is already an increase of more than 900%.

The number of Tesla sales in the month of July shows a huge drop compared to June this year. If in June there were still 937 Tesla's sold in July there were "only" 190. Although Tesla sales seem to be picking up again, as seen in the past two months.

In 2017, Polestar launched on a small scale the Polestar 1, a hybrid car with 609 hp, 1,000 Nm and an electric range of 124 km (WLTP) - the largest range among hybrid cars.

Unveiled in 2019, the Polestar 2 is the first all-electric premium car to be produced in a larger run. Introduced in various markets in mid-2020, the Polestar 2 has 300kW, 660 Nm, all-wheel drive, a 78 kWh battery and a range of 470 km (WLTP).

Polestar is not sitting still and this year unveiled Polestar the Precept, a vision of the brand's future in terms of sustainability, digital technology and design. There are already plans to add the Polestar 3 to the portfolio. This will be an all-electric performance SUV.

So Polestar is fast becoming a major player in the field of electric cars.
