Insurance
People often see insurance as a necessary evil. In the event of damage and theft, however, it is nice to be properly insured. In fact, with insurance you are buying a form of security. In fact, a well-fitting insurance policy can save you a lot of money. It is usually thought that taking out insurance takes a lot of time, but this is very much not the case. At Alpina\.nl, we have made comparing and buying insurance very easy. In just 5 minutes you can get a good insurance policy. In this article on Alpina.co.uk we tell you all about insurance.
What is insurance?
Insurance is a mutual agreement between insurer and insured, whereby the insured pays a premium to the insurer to be covered against a certain loss. Insurance can be divided into three different groups: non-life insurance, health insurance and life insurance.
Why take out insurance?
Insurance is basically covering the risk of an unexpected event. Of course, you don't know in advance if and when something is going to happen, such as a fire in your home or a damaged car accident. If the event has already occurred, insurance is of no use. After all, you can no longer insure a burning house. By taking out insurance you ensure financial security, because the costs of damage can sometimes be high. Think of a fire that destroys your house or the things in it. If you have to replace everything, the costs will be considerable. And if an accident results in personal injury, the costs can also be considerable. With good insurance, you do not have to bear the costs alone. If you don't take out insurance, you accept that you will have to bear the damage alone if things are damaged or lost.
Why compare insurance?
The range of insurances on offer is very large and constantly expanding. In addition, the prices are sometimes very different and an increasing number of different conditions are possible. To prevent you from seeing the wood for the trees, you can compare insurances. By comparing insurance policies, you will always choose the one that suits you best. Sometimes people choose the cheapest insurance they can find, without looking closely at the coverage. However, it is important that you do not only look at the price, but also at the coverage and conditions. There can be big differences in coverage. Perhaps the cheapest insurance will not cover you as well as you would like.
What is compulsory insurance in the Netherlands?
In the Netherlands, only two types of insurance are compulsory: a health insurance and a third-party insurance for a motor vehicle. Taking out a health insurance is compulsory for everyone in the Netherlands aged 18 or older. Children under 18 are co-insured for free on their parents' healthcare insurance. With a healthcare insurance you cover medically necessary healthcare.
Is a motor vehicle registered in your name, such as a car, moped or motorbike? Then you are obliged to take out at least a third-party insurance for the vehicle. With WA insurance, you are insured for damage that you cause to another person. The insurer covers liability damage, but damage to your own vehicle is not insured. For this you can take out hull insurance.
Different types of insurance
There are an awful lot of insurance policies. At Alpina.nl , we therefore divide insurance into several categories: Traffic, Home, Travel & Recreation, Care and Animals. Of course, you do not have to take out all insurance policies. You decide which risks you want to insure and which you are financially able to bear yourself.
Before taking out an insurance policy, it is a good idea to check which policies you already have and whether there is any overlap. For example, you can take out a car insurance policy with breakdown cover, but if you already have a separate breakdown cover elsewhere, it is not necessary. This prevents you from being double insured.
