A CIS registration after non-payment of my insurance, what solutions are there?

A CIS registration can have several causes. Non-payment of insurance premiums is one of them. Of course, it can always happen that the premiums remain unpaid for a while, and it can also happen that you simply forgot to pay. Fortunately, it is not the case that you immediately get a CIS registration. The really big problems only arise when you are in arrears. We will explain it to you.

blacklist insurance not paid

Am I on the 'blacklist' after not paying the bills for a long time?

The 'blacklist' for insurers, does it actually exist? The answer is: no! What people mean when they talk about the 'blacklist' is in fact the database of the CIS Foundation. So there is no risk of being blacklisted if you default on your insurance payments. What does happen is that you get a CIS registration. The CIS database is accessible to all insurers, they can view your details here. As soon as they assess that you are too great a risk, they can refuse to provide you with insurance. So much for the myth of the 'blacklist'.

What consequences does not paying my insurance have for me?

It may happen that, for example in a month with substantial unexpected expenses, you are unable to pay your insurance premium (on time). Usually this will not cause many problems with the majority of insurers. A reminder or warning will follow, and if you simply pay your bill after that, there is nothing to worry about. The moment non-payment becomes a structural issue, the consequence may be that your insurer discontinues the insurance. After this action, the insurer reports this to the CIS (Central Information System) Foundation. This is where your details are entered into the database and can be found by insurers and proxies affiliated with it. At that moment you have a CIS registration. Not a listing on a non-existent 'black list', but a listing in the CIS database.
Potential policyholders are always checked by insurers in the CIS database. If your name is on there, the consequences for your new, or future, insurance policies are quite significant. Insurance companies may come to the conclusion that they do not want to insure you as you pose too great a risk for them.

Still want to take out insurance with a CIS registration? How to do that?

If you can prove with good reason that your CIS registration is incorrect or unjustified, you can file a request for correction with your insurer. If it turns out that the CIS registration was indeed rightly established and your name remains in the database, it will be difficult to obtain insurance from a regular insurance company. Fortunately, there is another option for obtaining insurance, because no insurance means that you can never drive a vehicle on the road again, for example.
De Vereende is an insurance company that does want to insure special risks. The acceptance policy is broad and in principle everyone, including policyholders with a CIS registration, is accepted.

The cost

When taking out insurance with De Vereende, you have to take into account a number of cost items. CIS registrations entail an extra risk for the insurer and this automatically results in a higher premium. This is also the case with De Vereende. In order to cover the costs if you unexpectedly do not pay your premium (on time), you are asked to pay the premium three months in advance. Usually, taking out insurance while you have a CIS registration also entails paying a deposit. This deposit is settled if you leave the premium unpaid and is returned when the insurance is terminated. That is, as long as there are no outstanding bills.
